Home to upwards of 500 plant species and 130 bird species, it’s no wonder why this natural oasis receives around 60,000 visitors every year. Part of Theodore Wirth Regional Park, the sanctuary is located just minutes outside downtown Minneapolis. Don’t be fooled by its proximity to the bustling city, however. Step onto the self-guided path and you’ll be immediately transported into a wooded paradise.

Birds either take residence in the 15-acre plot, building their nests in the forest trees, or use it as a resting place during their spring and fall migrations. Warblers and hummingbirds enjoy the garden during their migration, and many other species including swallows, finches, owls and waterfowl call the area home.
